Sonic co-creator slapped with $1.2M fine after being found guilty of insider trading-
Sonic co-creator and Balan Wonderworld director Yuji Naka has been found guilty of insider trading, with the Tokyo District Court slapping him with a huge $1.2 million fine and a two-and-a-half-year prison sentence, suspended for four years.
It’s not far off the punishment prosecutors were gunning for earlier last month, the only exception being the four-year suspended sentence which will see Naka avoid any actual jail time unless he violates any of the court’s conditions or has any other nasty run-ins with the law during that time. According to a translated summary from SEGAbits, Naka was said to have shown “remorse” which led to the suspended sentence, despite the prosecution insisting otherwise. The fine remains largely the same though, with Japanese outlet Jiji reporting that …
This RTX 4070 Ti-powered rig for $200 off is great for 4K gaming-
Trust me, I’m just as surprised as you are that there are already deals on RTX 40-series-powered PCs circulating. In our daily roundup of the best PC gaming deals, one that caught my eye was this Skytech Chronos gaming PC with an RTX 4070 Ti for $1,799 at Newegg, $200 off its usual price.
Powering this titan is an Intel Core 7 12700F CPU and an RTX 4070 Ti GPU combo with 16GB of DDR4 RAM. Together these components should provide some beastly 4K performance. Adding Nvidia’s framerate generation tech, DLSS 3, to the mix gives you an impressive gaming rig.
The RTX 4070 Ti is a good choice for 4K gaming and gives AMD’s RDNA 3 GPUs a run for their money. You get RTX 3090-level performance with a better cooler, efficiency, and value.
If you’re not dipping …
The voice of Mass Effect’s sexy bird man Garrus will be the voice of Avowed’s sexy fish man Kai-
Brandon Keener, the man behind the voice of Commander Shepard’s number-one guy Garrus Vakarian in the Mass Effect series, will portray companion (and potential number-one guy) Kai in Obsidian’s upcoming RPG Avowed—and his name isn’t the only one you’re likely to recognize.
Keener’s role in Avowed first came to light last week thanks to @PoweredbyidTech on Twitter, which naturally provoked some excitement: Garrus is everyone’s favorite stoic sexy bird man, after all. Obsidian essentially confirmed the casting (or at least hinted at it pretty unmistakably) a few days later:
Now it’s really official: Obsidian confirmed with PC Gamer that Keener will in fact portray Kai in Avowed, and also shared the rest of the talent behind the game’s main cast of companions. Here’s who …
Valve announces two big changes to Counter-Strike 2- shorter matches, and a new map-specific ranking system-
Earlier this year Valve announced Counter-Strike 2, alongside a limited test that invited a small percentage of the playerbase in to smell the roses. Since then the developer has been using the test to, well, test things: rotating maps in and out, adding new features one by one, and generally fine-tuning this thing before the masses descend. And that time is at hand.
A new update brings an overhaul of the ranking system, a change in map length, a reworked version of the map Inferno, and opens up the limited test to a much wider range of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive players.
The changes to the ranking system are considerable, with an all-new CS Rating determining where players stand on global and regional leaderboards which refresh each competitive season. This rati…
Asus’s fastest ROG Ally gaming handheld just got hit with the Black Friday discount stick making it $80 cheaper-
If 2023 is the year of the PC gaming handheld, could November 24 be the day to pull the trigger yourself? It might not be a bad idea, what with the full-spec AMD Z1 Extreme version of the Asus ROG Ally going on sale for $620 at Best Buy for Black Friday.
The Z1 Extreme is, of course, the fully enabled variant of AMD’s awesome Phoenix APU, the chip that is making all these new-gen handhelds possible. It packs 12 AMD RDNA 3-spec graphics compute units. That compares with eight RDNA 2-spec CUs in the Steam Deck’s older Van Gogh APU from AMD.
In short, it’s the most powerful integrated GPU available for any PC and it makes for the best possible handheld PC gaming experience right now. The Ally also sports plenty of other juicy features.
For starters, the 7-inch screen is f…
Twitter sleuths suggest a new Steam Deck is on its way, but any updates are likely to be for Valve’s benefit not ours-
Valve is well known for keeping any information about its hardware plans very tightly under wraps, to the point where you might as well hire the world’s best psychic to forecast when something new is on its way. But never underestimate the sheer diligence of tech enthusiasts, especially the likes of Brad Lynch, who’s spotted some interesting snippets of potential changes or updates for the Steam Deck.
His recent posts (as reported by The Verge) revolve around the so-called Model 1030 which looks to be a clear update of some kind for Valve’s handheld gaming PC. It’s worth pointing out that no matter what—if any—changes are forthcoming, 1030 is absolutely not a Steam Deck 2. Valve has been crystal clear on this matter, so if you’re hoping that something with mor…
Twisted Tower takes BioShock and turns it into a deadly game show run by a disturbed toymaker-
Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory is already a rather sinister affair, but Twisted Tower, revealed at this year’s Realms Deep showcase, is determined to take that concept and dial it up a few more notches. It’s a game that looks to mash together a generous helping of BioShock’s 1920s art deco setting with Roald Dahl’s eerie novel, swapping out confectionery for toys and a disturbingly deadly game show.
Now why anybody in their right mind would want to willingly enter a place called the Twisted Tower is beyond me, but protagonist Tiny seems well up for the challenge. After being devastated by his crush getting engaged to his school bully, he’s managed to convince himself that securing a spot in toymaker Mr. Twister’s game and winning the grand $10,000,000 prize will somehow turn the …
Total War- Warhammer 3 roadmap outlines the next year of DLC and updates-
Creative Assembly has finally laid out plans for how it’s going to make Total War: Warhammer 3 both more total and more Warhammer over the next 12 months. The DLC roadmap details three expansions, each of which will be accompanied by a “free-LC” adding a Legendary Hero for everyone. It also mentions “interim patches” for bug fixes, balance changes, and other additions will come between each DLC.
The first of those interim patches is designed to follow the recent release of Forge of the Chaos Dwarfs. Update 3.1 brings a Chaos Dwarf-themed endgame scenario to the Immortal Empires campaign, seven more mercenary Regiments of Renown, another Legendary Hero, as well as “Multiple crash and performance fixes, bug fixes, gameplay tweaks”. It’s due in late May.
Shadows of Change is th…
Updated Dwarf Fortress comes to Linux, fixes those pesky marksdwarves-
The Steam version of legendary simulation game Dwarf Fortress has a vital new patch out updating the graphical edition to work on ye olde Linux, a most dorky operation system for that most dorky of games. It was a delayed release, mostly because primary developer Tarn Adams just got over a bout with covid.
Per Kitfox games, “this patch has some needed updates, like the ability to look at old alerts, ammo that works when uniforms are changed, and soldiers that don’t hoard rotten food in their rooms.”
Two of those are particular bugbears of the Steam release, as for whatever reason soldiers just really wanted to leave their work rations on the floor in their rooms, where they’d promptly rot. The other’s a blessing for those Dwarf Fortress architects who’d really like to make u…
Overwatch 2’s Steam release means players can finally review it, and it’s an absolute mess-
Update: When we originally published this story, Overwatch 2 had around 5,000 Steam reviews and a “Mostly Negative” tag. Now it’s at 50,000 and “Overwhelmingly Negative”.
Thousands of players are trashing the game in the reviews, but it seems like a considerable amount of them are also picking up the premium battle pass or the $15 PvE missions because it’s currently the seventh top seller (by revenue) on the platform.
Original story: Overwatch 2 came to Steam today as part of a new Blizzard initiative to publish some of its games on Valve’s platform. The debut is an opportunity to attract a new audience, but it has also opened the gates to an onslaught of negative player reviews.
Blizzard’s free-to-play hero…
